■ Application materials
Please note that the application materials will not be accepted if any portion of them is missing: for example, a missing form or an omission of information or seal.

Please carefully read the followings before filling out the application documents. |
- Application form (designated by B.I.L.)

- Letter of Guarantee (designated by B.I.L.)

- Self-assessment of Japanese ability (Nihongo noryoku jikoshinkokusyo)

- Documents to prove Japanese language proficiency

- Graduation certificate or diploma of the last school, which graduated

- Academic Record or Transcript of the last school graduated

- 6 Photographs ( 40mm long × 30mm wide )

- Application fee 20,000yen

- Personal Record (designated by the Immigration Bureau)

- Letter of Support (designated by the Immigration Bureau)

- Documents (applicant, his/her parents or legal guardian) proving ability to pay school expenses

- Application for Certificate of Eligibility
( a set of 3-pages document designated by the Immigration Bureau )

- Photocopy of Passport

- Application for Student House

In cases where an applicant has stayed in Japan for at least one month on a temporary visa in the past, submission of a detailed description and explanation of activities performed during that stay is necessary. |

For applicants wishing to reside in Japan or whose expenses will be sponsored by someone other than a family member will require the completion of further documents. |

In addition, the school or the Immigration Bureau of Japan may require other documentation for reference purposes. In such cases please submit requests as soon as possible. |
■ Place of application

If you reside in Taiwan, South Korea, or Thailand, please submit all application materials to the Taipei, Seoul, or Bangkok office.
Once the applicant and parents (for expense/fee payment) pass the preliminary application examination and interview at the respective offices, BIL will become the applicant’s guarantor during the period in which the applicant is a student at BIL.

Applicants residing in China may apply through an international house in Beijing or Shanghai.
The school will act as a guarantor for applicants whilst attending the school after satisfying a document examination and an interview process accompanied by guardians or sponsors at either international house. |

Enquiries will be taken by the school administration from applicants from countries other than those listed above, those with a Japanese guarantor or others already with a visa.
A Japanese guarantor shall apply to the school administration on behalf of the applicant. |
■ Admission Process
Admission to the Japanese Language Course is based on document screening and interview: Applicant’s documents are examined and his/her guarantor interviewed.
Admission to the Japanese Language Teacher Training Course and the International Interpretation/Translation Course is determined by applicant's written examination and interview.
The Tokyo office will consider the balance of nationalities and areas among the students when enrolling applicants, so that students are not recruited from a particular area alone.
Please note that content of the school’s admission process which concerns applicant’s acceptance or rejection will not be released in anyway.

(12. Application for the Issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility to a Status of Residence, is not necessary)
- Document proving that applicant is currently a student at a school (or document establishing that applicant will be able to graduate.)
- Document showing the applicant's grades at current school and document showing percentage of attendance at current school.
- Certificate of Registered Information.

A student is allowed to study Japanese at a Japanese language institute for a maximum of 2 years.
Thus, an applicant who has already studied Japanese at another Japanese language institute for over a year cannot enter the April term, and an applicant who has studied for over 6 months at another Japanese language institute cannot enter the October term. |
