  Textbook

Q: What specific portions of the textbooks have been changed and improved?
A: The specific portions will be shown on the “Textbooks” section of BIL’s homepage.


  Admission

Q: I would like to submit an application from overseas. When is the application period?
A: For the April term, applications are accepted between October to December. For the October term, between April to July. However, it is possible that the application period will close early as soon as all courses are full.
Q: I am currently studying Japanese in Japan on a one-year student visa. Can I study Japanese for an additional year?
A: Because one can study Japanese in Japan for a total of 2 years, you can apply to become enrolled in the Japanese language department’s college preparatory course at BIL.
Q: I currently possess a family visa. Can I enroll in a course at BIL?
A: If you have time left on your visa that is longer than the enrollment period at BIL, and if you pass the application process, then you can enroll at BIL. In your case, the documents necessary to accompany your application will differ from those without such a visa, so please contact us for further information. This is also true of applicants with Japanese spouses and with permanent residence in Japan.
Q: Will I not be able to enroll in BIL if I do not have a Japanese guarantor?
A: It is necessary for you to have a Japanese guarantor who can go through part of the application procedure on your behalf. However, if applicants uses the school guarantor systems, the person in Taiwan, South Korea, and Thailand can enter the BIL even if there is no Japanese guarantor. A Japanese guarantor is necessary for entrance in the country other than the above-mentioned.


  Student Houses

Q: When are the room assignments made? When can I start living there?
A: Room assignments are made about one month before the student enrolls in BIL. As for when students can start living in the dorms, for the April term, April 1, and for the October term, October 1.
Q: Can I continue living in the student house after graduation?
A: The basic rule is that a student can live in the student house while he or she is enrolled at BIL. Please understand that the student house at Bunka Institute of Language is for the students who come to Japan to begin studies at BIL.


  Campus Life

Q: Can I hold a part-time job after class hours?
A: You must fulfill the following requirements in order to obtain permission to hold a part-time job?
  1. At least 3 months must have passed since enrolling at BIL, and you must have good attendance percentage, grades, and classroom performance and attitude. In addition, the homeroom teacher and the department of school affairs must determine that having a part-time job will not have a negative impact on your school work.


  2. The part-time job must consist of less than 28 hours per week. ( If one works more than that, BIL can force him or her to leave BIL and Japan. )


  3. The part-time job must not be one that is not permitted by BIL. ( If it is discovered that one is holding such a job, he or she can be forced to leave BIL and Japan. )
Q: I have heard that the requirements for graduation are quite strict. Is this true?
A: Yes. A student cannot graduate unless the attendance percentage is over ninety percent. This is a strict requirement, but every year approximately eighty percent of students graduate. The attendance percentage affects the visa renewal process when a student enrolls in a higher level of education after graduation from BIL, so please make every effort to maintain an attendance percentage of over ninety percent.
